The principles of truth are seven; He who knows these, understandingly, possesses the magic key before whose touch all the doors of the temple fly open. – The Kybalion
The ancient Egyptians possessed knowledge far ahead of their time and some of what they created baffles us today. Feats like the Pyramids would be difficult for us to do now with vast amounts of technology.
Some of the knowledge they possessed was the Hermetic principles which came from Hermes also known as Thoth, living in Egypt thousand years ago known as the master of masters because of the profundity of his teachings.
These principles which I will explain below are compiled in The Kybalion, however, we do not know who wrote this book. The authors come under the pseudo name ‘The Three Initiates’.
The Principle of Mentalism
The ALL is Mind, everything in Mental. This is the understanding that everything is created with thought or mind and nothing material is created without it. You may have heard the saying ‘thoughts become things’.
The law of attraction states the same and this was known thousands of years ago under the hermetic principles. We create our reality with the power of our mind.
To apply this principle we must first discover what we want in our lives clearly we can then adjust our thoughts to a reality that we want.
The Principle of Correspondence
As above so below: as below, so above. This famous quote was created by Hermes and this means that the thoughts/images of your conscious and subconscious mind reflect your external circumstances. The outer world is a mirror of the inner world. This law is always working. Your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes must change in order to manifest a different reality.
To apply this principle we must first accept full responsibility for everything that is happening in our lives and reflect on what isn’t currently working to see what patterns are affecting these. We must then go about changing them.
There are many ways to do this, we can read books that will give us the knowledge to tackle the problems we face, we can change the types of questions we ask ourselves daily into more empowering ones, we can spend time with people that will elevate our minds, we can attend powerful seminars on the issues we want to change from people that are excelling in those areas.
Those are just a few tools we can use to influence the principle of correspondence in our favour.
The Principle of Vibration
Nothing rests. Everything moves; Everything vibrates. Every atom and molecule is vibration at a certain speed, vibration, frequency and motion. It is the combination of these that determines the form of any given object. Nothing is at rest means that even though you yourself seem to be solid at a microscopic level you are vibrating.
This is why many spiritual teachers talk about your vibration because this is what you are emitting constantly. What we think, do and feel manifests your vibration and there are many levels of more positive ones and negative ones. The higher your vibration the quicker your ability to manifest is. It is up to us to increase our vibrational state for a better world.
To apply this we must figure out how to FEEL a different way emotionally by changing our environment, our thoughts or by using visualising a better future. Examples of this are jumping up and down with joy for no reason at all, feeling grateful for the all the small things in our lives or even test driving the car of your dreams and really getting in touch with how it feels to have it.
The Principle of Polarity
Everything is dual; Everything has poles; Everything has its pair of opposites; Like and unlike are the same; Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; Extremes meet; All truths, are but half-truths; All paradoxes may be reconciled. – The Kybalion
Everything is the same but at different degrees. For example heat and the cold, light and darkness, slow and fast. Take water you freeze it. It becomes ice. Boil water and it evaporates and becomes gaseous fumes. But they are identical.
You can apply the same thing to the mental plane. Love and hate, generosity and stinginess, elation and depression are one and the same. The importance of this is by understanding you can change one vibration to another. The alchemists in the middle ages were preoccupied with changing base metals into gold but this is real alchemy.
So to apply this in your life you must understand that anything can be changed. Your lower self can be transformed into your higher self. An empty bank account can be transformed into a full one. Weakness can be transformed into strength. They’re all varying degrees of the same thing that are under your direct control.
The Principle of Rhythm
Nature and life have a rhythm to it. Your breath has a rhythm. The tides of the oceans have a rhythm. The economy has a rhythm. They all move in an order of action and reaction, advance and retreat, rising and falling.
This is manifested in all aspects of our lives and we see this in the ups and downs of situations we come across.
To apply this we must be aware of this principle and not be bound to an eternal struggle of highs and lows in life. Most people totally succumb to the principle of rhythm and have no control of their mental state. They believe this is normal and is outside their awareness to think different.
You can attain a level of mental fortitude where you are in a good state regardless of any situation transcending duality. The ultimate state of living is to get to a level of loving blissful equanimity.
This is explained in the Bhagavad Gita by Krishna and also in the book Hannibal and Me one of histories greatest military strategists. To be able to maintain this whether you have profit or loss, pain or pleasure, sickness or health, victory or defeat, praise or criticism.
The Principle of Cause and Effect
The Kybalion states that nothing escapes this law. There are no accidents in this universe we all create our reality through the actions we take.
Simple examples of this are if you’re in poor health is it a result of poor diet or lack of exercise. Is your unsuccessful business a result of poor work ethic. All your actions add up and are creating the life you have currently.
Most people are at the effect of the world, not the cause. They are subject to the effect of their thoughts, moods, desires, emotions, other people and the environment. Successful people learn how to become the cause and master their own reality.
You can apply this by emulating people that have achieved what you want in life. Find out what they did, how they thought, what beliefs they had about life. We are in an age where there is an abundance of resources from whom you can learn from. You need to apply the law of cause and effect and take massive action on them. If you follow this you can achieve any result you desire.
The Principle of Gender
This principle states that everything in the universe has a gender. Masculine and feminine are at work not just on a physical plane but on a mental and spiritual one as well. You can also call this yin and yang.
On the physical plane this manifests as sex but it takes higher forms on the other planes. It is impossible for creation to take place without this principle.
To apply this we must learn to balance and integrate both sides of us and as you do so you will get closer and closer to self-mastery. The feminine and masculine must work together to achieve harmony as each on their own can be destructive.
These are the Seven Hermetic Principles and you can see these laws in many religions and teachings across the world. Keep them in mind and harness them to achieve what you desire from life.
